As part of the Echoes in Wales of the Andesexhibition, I had the pleasure of leading a series of art workshops. I brought a range of materials for participants to explore, and it was inspiring to see how readily everyone engaged with the creative process.

The workshops provided a welcoming space for conversation as well as art-making. Participants connected easily with the themes of the exhibition, sharing personal stories and reflections. We spoke about family ancestry, including connections with Scotland, and conversations also touched on Brecon Beacons Others shared their experiences of recently arriving in Wales and reflected on the positive aspects of building a new life here.

While creating drawings, collages, and mobiles, participants discovered common experiences and formed meaningful connections. It was wonderful to witness how art can bring people together, encouraging creativity, dialogue, and a shared sense of belonging.

A heartfelt thank you to Gallery 57 Newport, Newport Council, and everyone who took part in the workshops. Your support, enthusiasm, and willingness to share your creativity and stories made these sessions such a meaningful and inspiring experience.
